About Adi Yogpeeth
Founded in 2018, Adi Yogpeeth is a Rishikesh-based yoga school dedicated to sharing the practice, knowledge and spirit of yoga with students from around the world.
Our Story
Adi Yogpeeth was founded in 2018 with a simple intention: to create a place where sincere students could come to Rishikesh, practise yoga and learn from the traditions that have shaped yoga for generations.
From its home in the Himalayan foothills, the school offers a learning environment where yoga is approached as more than a physical practice. Students explore asana, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, anatomy and yogic lifestyle as connected parts of a wider path.
Today, Adi Yogpeeth welcomes students from different countries and backgrounds through a range of teacher-training programs, specialised yoga courses and retreat experiences.
The Meaning Behind Our Name
The name Adi Yogpeeth reflects the school's connection with the ancient roots of yoga and the tradition of Adi Yogi. In the Shaivite tradition, Lord Shiva is revered as Adi Yogi — the first yogi and primordial teacher of yoga.
Adi conveys the sense of the primordial or first, while Peeth can be understood as a seat or place of learning. Together, the name expresses our aspiration to practise, preserve and share yoga as a living tradition.
A place of learning rooted in the timeless tradition of yoga.

Studying yoga in Rishikesh is also about the environment around the practice. Residential learning gives students time to settle into a daily rhythm of study, practice, reflection and community.
Why Rishikesh
At the foothills of the Himalayas and beside the sacred Ganges, Rishikesh has long been associated with yoga, meditation, spiritual study and ashram life. For many students, coming here is part of the learning itself.
Discover Rishikesh →Our Community
Students arrive in Rishikesh with different backgrounds, goals and reasons for studying yoga.
Some come to deepen their personal practice. Others want to become yoga teachers, explore a specialised tradition or simply spend meaningful time learning in the birthplace of modern yoga culture.
At Adi Yogpeeth, these individual journeys meet in the classroom, on the mat and within the shared rhythm of residential yoga life.
Our Philosophy
A teacher-training course may begin with postures, breathing techniques and philosophy. The deeper journey is learning to observe, understand and transform the way we relate to ourselves and the world around us.
